Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, a Malayalam filmmaker, has been arrested for allegedly threatening actor Manju Warrier

Following a complaint by actor Manju Warrier that he was repeatedly “insulting and threatening” her on social media by saying her “life was in danger,” the Kerala Police detained award-winning Malayalam filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan on Thursday.

Sasidharan was apprehended by police in Thiruvananthapuram rural and will be transported to Kochi, where Warrier filed the complaint on Wednesday. Warrier claimed in her complaint that Sasidharan, the director of her upcoming film ‘Kayattam,’ has been harassing her by sending her messages and attempting to insult her on social media.

Warrier’s statement was recently recorded by the police in connection with an alleged conspiracy against officers investigating the 2017 woman actor abduction and sexual assault case, in which her ex-husband and popular actor Dileep is a suspect.

Sasidharan wrote on social media after Warrier gave her statement to the police that her life was in danger. He also stated that following her deposition, the head of the investigation team was removed. Sasidharan stated earlier this week that Warrier’s life was in danger. “I have sent an email and a text message to Manju Warrier about my concerns and mentioned that I am planning to reveal my doubts on social media before I put my first post,” he wrote on Facebook. I have yet to receive a response from her… This is not a personal matter for me. I am fully aware that I am on a razor’s edge with this issue. I can see Manju Warrier coming out and saying that she is fine and that I am making an unnecessary fuss…”

Sasidharan is a well-known filmmaker whose film ‘Ozhivudivasathe Kali’ won the Kerala state government award for best feature film in 2015.
