“Kangana Ranaut Is A Celebrity, But…”: Defamation Case in Court

Kangana Ranaut may be a celebrity with professional commitments, but she cannot forget that she is a defendant in a case, according to a local court that refused to grant her a permanent stay of proceedings in a defamation case brought by Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar.

Ms Ranaut’s application for permanent exemption from appearance, citing her professional obligations, was denied by Metropolitan Magistrate RR Khan on Tuesday. On Thursday, the detailed order was made public. “Contrary to popular belief, the accused is dictating her own terms for the trial of this case. The accused, admittedly, cannot claim automatic permanent immunity. The accused must adhere to the legal procedure as well as the terms and conditions of her bail bonds “In its order, the court stated.

Magistrate Khan went on to say that the court has so far granted her exemption requests for those dates (as she had requested for previous hearings) without imposing a fee. The order stated that “to date, the accused has not appeared with an intent to cooperate with the court for the trial of allegations levelled against her.”

The order stated that “to date, the accused has not appeared with an intent to cooperate with the court for the trial of allegations levelled against her.”Ms Ranaut later filed a counter-complaint against Mr Akhtar in the same court, alleging “extortion and criminal intimidation.” Following her public feud with her co-star, the actor claimed that Mr Akhtar summoned her and her sister Rangoli Chandel to his home with “malafide intentions and ulterior motives, and then criminally intimidated and threatened” her.
