UNC sponsored economic blockade jolts Manipur

As the Congress government decided to move forward with their policy regarding the creation of new states, the United Naga Council strengthened their economic blockade strikes putting the Manipuri population in a pool of miseries. Earlier, the Congress government had decided to create nearly seven new states in Manipur. But, the move suffered serious backlashes as the UNC strongly opposed the move saying the government is trying to encroach into their ancestral land. Subsequently, demanding the withdrawal of the policy, the UNC launched strong protest across their strongholds. As the protest against the state government crossed the safe limits and transformed from an economic blockade to a violent strike, the curfew was imposed in the affected region. It was reported that several vehicles, public property and religious centres such as churches were torched by the protesters. Expressing worriedness about the disturbing incidents happening in the Manipur, BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav alleged that the Manipur government is playing gamble with the life of innocent people. As per the report, the state is presently suffering serious shortage of essential commodities. It is learned that the state government has agreed to invite the protesters for a detailed deliberation. The central government has offered all possible support to the ailing state. Union Minister of state for Home Affairs Kiran Rijiju has visited the place and is closely monitoring the developments. It seems that the state government has to step back from the controversial policy in order to reaffirm peace in the region.
