The gunman James Holmes has been spared by the jury in the US state of Colorado on the case of killing 12 people at a screening of a Batman film in 2012. It has been reported that he will serve lifetime jail without any possibility of parole. The defense team had argued that the former neuroscience graduate had mental problem during that time. The jury has agreed that Holmes was mentally ill is however responsible for his actions. Due to lack of agreement the jury came to the decision that he would be made to face automatic life sentence without parole. The sentence is expected to be imposed formally at a later hearing. It was in July that Holmes was convicted on 165 counts of murder, attempted murder and an explosives charge over the shootings in Aurora, Colorado. James Holmes was considered to be a quiet young man before the attack.
