SC declines to interfere in the ECI’s stay on the release of PM Modi’s biopic

The Supreme Court of India has declined to interfere in the stay of the Election Commission of India on the release of the biopic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier, the top court of the country asked the commission to watch the film before reaching to the conclusion that the release of the film violates the Model Code of Conduct.

Even after watching the film, the commission stayed strong in its decision that the film should not be allowed to hit the screens before the end of the election session.

The commission even observed that the film was more of a hagiography in its character than a biography.

When the court passed its initial order on April 15 about the issue, it was not aware that whether the commission watched the film before passing its order or not.

As the commission has stayed strong in its position even after watching the film, the court might has found it necessary to support the ECI’s position in the issue.
