Amazon India to Invest ₹2,800 Crore to Boost Logistics and Worker Welfare
Amazon India on Thursday announced an investment of over ₹2,800 crore to strengthen its logistics network, enhance worker safety, and improve the financial well-being of its workforce. The funding will be used to expand and upgrade fulfilment centres, sortation hubs, and last-mile delivery stations across the country. The move is part of the company’s broader strategy to improve operational efficiency and support its growing e-commerce footprint in India.
The investment aligns with Amazon’s long-term commitment to invest over $35 billion in India by 2030, with a focus on AI-driven digitisation, exports, and job creation. The company plans to continue expanding its core e-commerce and quick commerce services, offering delivery options ranging from minutes to days. In 2025 alone, Amazon invested ₹2,000 crore to launch 17 fulfilment centres, six sortation hubs, and 75 delivery stations, while scaling its quick commerce service, Amazon Now, to over 300 micro-fulfilment centres in major cities.
Alongside infrastructure expansion, Amazon is introducing several worker-centric initiatives, including climate-controlled facilities, improved ventilation, rest areas, and accessibility features for employees with disabilities. The company is also investing in healthcare programmes such as medical camps and insurance coverage for delivery workers. Leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning, Amazon aims to enhance safety and efficiency through tools like unsafe driving alerts, rest break prompts, and route optimisation. Operating in a competitive market with players like Flipkart, JioMart, BigBasket, Blinkit, Instamart, and Zepto, the company said these investments will also empower small businesses and improve delivery speeds, particularly in tier-II and tier-III cities.
