Hyundai Officially Names Its New Mid-Size SUV ‘Bayon’
Hyundai Motor India has officially announced the name of its upcoming mid-size SUV as the Bayon, with the model scheduled to launch during the 2026 festive season. The name is inspired by Bayonne, a city in France’s Basque Country. Hyundai says the new SUV will focus heavily on technology and is being developed with younger customers in mind.
The Bayon is expected to use the Creta’s 115hp, 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with either a six-speed manual or CVT gearbox. Hyundai could also offer a CNG variant with an underbody tank, which would make it the company’s first model above four metres in length to receive a CNG powertrain.
Hyundai is positioning the Bayon as a technology-focused addition to its growing SUV portfolio, with the company aiming to strengthen its presence in India’s fast-growing mid-size SUV segment. The automaker is expected to reveal more details about the Bayon in the coming weeks. Hyundai has also confirmed plans for a dedicated compact electric vehicle in the Venue-size segment later this financial year.
