Zomato to Cut 250 Jobs, Shut Hyderabad Customer Support Centre
Zomato is set to lay off around 250 employees as it shuts its customer support centre in Hyderabad. The food delivery company, owned by Eternal, is consolidating its in-house customer support operations at its Gurugram headquarters rather than ending the function altogether.
The workforce reduction is reportedly part of a restructuring of Zomato’s customer support operations. The company has been increasing its reliance on external partners for customer-care services over the past six months and informed affected employees about the job cuts on August 31. Employees will receive their August salary along with severance equivalent to four months’ pay, including contractual notice pay and a one-time ex gratia payment.
Affected staff will also be allowed to continue their medical insurance and counselling support until March 31, 2027. The move reflects a broader industry trend of companies using third-party service providers and AI-powered automation to reduce the need for large in-house support teams. Zomato had previously cut around 500 junior-level jobs in April 2025.
