PM Modi in Netherlands Calls Global Era a “Decade of Disasters”, Flags Poverty Risks Amid Crises
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking to the Indian community in The Hague during his visit to the Netherlands, described the current global period as a “decade of disasters.” He pointed to successive crises including the COVID-19 pandemic, ongoing wars, and an emerging energy crunch, warning that these disruptions are destabilising economies and could reverse global development gains, pushing millions back into poverty if not addressed urgently.
Modi emphasised that India and the Netherlands are working together to build trusted and resilient supply chains to better withstand global uncertainty. He also highlighted expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, technology, defence, and renewable energy, positioning the partnership as part of a broader effort to strengthen economic stability and international coordination.
Highlighting India’s domestic transformation, the Prime Minister said the country is rapidly emerging as a technology-driven and innovation-led economy, citing its growing startup ecosystem and rise in unicorn companies since 2014. He added that India aims to become a global manufacturing hub, a leader in green energy, and a key driver of world growth, while also hosting major global events like the G20 and AI Summit to reflect its rising global influence.
