Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha faces protest in Jalandhar

Laal Singh Chaddha, the most recent movie by Aamir Khan, was met with demonstrations in Punjab’s Jalandhar during its showing at a PVR cinema yesterday. The movie was released on Thursday.

Shiv Sena-led protesters gathered outside the theatre to voice their opposition. When the police arrived on the scene and spoke with the theater’s management, the screening was suspended.

After learning of this, Sikh organisations also travelled to the location and yelled slogans in support of the film. They claimed that since the movie is based on a Sikh man’s character, Hindu organisations had no authority to prevent its showing. However, the Hindu organisations said that Aamir Khan’s film PK had disrespected Hindu gods and goddesses, and as a result, they were protesting the release of his upcoming film.

According to reports, there were also rallies against the movie in Varanasi and Gorakhpur. According to PTI, Chandra Prakash Singh, the state president of the youth wing of the Sanatan Rakshak Sena, and Arun Pandey, the vice president, claim that Aamir Khan mocks Hindu deities in his movies. “We will knock on doors and ask people to avoid seeing Aamir Khan’s movies. We also ask Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, to outlaw the movie, they were quoted as adding.
