Jet Airways has been granted an air operator certificate, allowing it to resume commercial flights: DGCA
On Friday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted Jet Airways the Air Operator Certificate (AOC), allowing it to resume commercial flight operations after being grounded since 2019.
The “AOC” has been “granted” to Jet Airways, according to DGCA chief Arun Kumar, according to news agency PTI.
Jet Airways, founded by Naresh Goyal and which flew its first commercial flight on May 5, 1993, flew its last commercial flight on April 18, 2019, as it collapsed under a mountain of debt. After filing for bankruptcy, the company was purchased by a consortium led by UAE-based businessman Murari Jalan and UK-based Kalrock Capital. The consortium has pledged $180 million in funding, with $60 million going toward paying off the airline’s existing debts.
Jet Airways successfully completed five proving flights on May 15 and 17 with DGCA officials on board, and plans to resume commercial flight operations in the July-September quarter.
