Renault Pulse

       The latest offering of Renault the Pulse, is a premium compact segment car. This is the third offer of Renault after it parted ways with Mahindra and Mahindra. The first was Fluence, premium segment sedan and Koleos, a premium SUV.

Exterior
Renault pulse is redesigned by the Renault Design Centre in Mumbai. One can say much of the change ends with front bumper. The Renault badge seems to be the only major change then. There is some sort of aggression built into the whole design. The front bumper sports a widened hexagonal feature which includes the grille and air dam. The design is also altered along the Renault logo. There are some slight changes in the bonnet design; the bonnet slab in the pulse is missing. The outside design is interesting comparing with Micra. The lamps both at the front and the back are almost same but the rear lamps gets a featured circular internal elements.

Interior
When it comes to interior, the most notable change is the Renault Lozenge on the steering wheel. The interior colour is different and it only a minor part.

Features
The Pulse is as feature filled as the Micra. The jelly bean design is the biggest advantage of both. The tall boy design gains advantage over the competitors. The top end model is loaded with dual airbags, ABS and EBD. The higher end pulse also get features like push button start, automatic ac, dash board integrated music system and auto folding mirror.

Engine and ride
Renault Pulse comes with a diesel motor only. It is the same power train found in Micra and Sunny. It is a proven motor. Power and torque are really good. The five speed transmission is well aligned with the engine. The engine gives out the maximum power at 4000 rpm and 160 Nm torque at 2000 rpm.

Renault has chosen to launch the Pulse only with the 1.5-litre K9K dCi diesel engine, which is also available in the Micra. This 1,461cc common rail diesel mill used in other Renault-Nissan cars too, is quite a likeable motor. Quick to spool up and with barely any delay in torque delivery, the engine puts out a peak 64PS of power at 4,000 rpm and a healthy maximum torque of 160 Nm from as low as 2,000 rpm. The Engine noise may be a problem for some, but with windows rolled up and the air conditioner on, you will hear no noise.

Price
The Pulse is offered with two trim levels – RxL and RxZ, just like the XV and XV Premium variants of the Micra diesel. Prices for the Pulse range from Rs 5.77 lakh to 6.38 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) including the optional safety additions.

My view
Renault Pulse is good option if you are thinking about style, power and mileage and with the renowned Renault brand Pulse is good buy. One cannot think that introducing a twin in the market will give you a big commercial success. But for the customer it is a good thing that he is getting enough options in brands and variants.
