odd even

The new year was an odd day in Delhi, one of the most polluted cities in the world. The green light was given to the vehicles with Odd number for a period of 15 days, from Jan 1st- 15th, because of which the number of vehicles on the road came down dramatically. People travelling in even numbered vehicles were fined Rs 2000. Temporary reduction in the amount of air pollutants was reported. Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his overwhelming satisfaction on twitter.

This scheme was introduced to combat air pollution in Delhi, which is infamous for it’s rapid elevation in the past couple of decades. This rule define those cars that can be used for travelling on a particular day, i.e vehicles that ends with either Odd or Even number. Several section of people are exempted from this rule, like women drivers with women passengers or children, CNG driven vehicles, electric vehicles, emergency vehicles etc.
