Top court set to reconsider Ishrat Jahan encounter issue

The Supreme Court of India on last day positively responded on a plea seeking quashing of charges against some Gujrat police officers, who were facing consequences of Ishrat Jahan encounter case. In 2004, Gujarat police reportedly killed Ishrat Jahan and three other persons in an alleged fake encounter operation. Several rumours and speculations floated in the political hemisphere regarding the encounter. Congress party deliberately used the situation to taint the image of then Gujarat CM and current PM Narendra Modi, says expert. As per the Media reports, some top Gujarati cops like DIG Vanzara are still facing criminal prosecution or departmental actions in collection with the case. In contrary to the CBI findings and opposition’s speculations, David Headley, Pak-terrorist, confessed before a Mumbai court, in a video testimony from an unknown place in America, that Ishrat Jahan and her associates were terrorist operatives of a Pakistani terror outfit, LeT. On the wake of the big confession, advocate ML Sharma has submitted a request to the Supreme Court for urgent consideration of the issue. As a result of that a SC bench headed by Chief Justice T S Thakur and Justice U U Lalit agreed to consider the case as early as possible. The petition demands that the government should give proper compensation to the officers who were harassed by authorise with a fake case. Meanwhile, the petition strongly seeks proper action against those personals who manipulated stories to distort the truth.
