TN elections: AIADMK unveils manifesto, ‘Amma’ offers numerous freebies

It seems that ‘Amma’ knows very well what his children expect from her at this moment. Giving new meaning to the old saying, here, AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, popularly known as ‘Amma’ in the state, has filled her election manifesto with numerous freebies. It includes mobile phones, subsides on scooters for women, around 100 units of free electricity and free Wi-Fi facility in public locations. Earlier, in last elections, she had delivered a similar manifesto and grabbed an astonishing victory in the assembly elections. While addressing a public gathering in Erode, Jayalalitha claims that she had fulfilled all her promises that she made in last manifesto. If she returns to power she will put all possible efforts to materialise the new manifesto, she added. It is learned that the freebies are mostly targeted on the youth and women voters in the state. But, it is not yet clear how will an educated youth, who are eagerly waiting for employment opportunities, react to such freebies. Anyway, the upcoming elections will decide the future of the freebie culture of the Tamil Nadu election campaigns. Earlier, DMK, prominent opposition party of Tamil Nadu, had also published similar manifesto recently. Their freebie offers were high speed internet connectivity to students, smartphone for poor people, subsides and lone waivers. However, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss observed that this freebie culture will put the state in a severe financial crisis. Meanwhile, experts say that the educated youth will not accept the freebies culture. They want rapid development and substantial amount of employment opportunity in the state, added expert.
