Thai judge shot himself in courtroom
A Thailand judge has short himself in his chest in his courtroom, triggering a serious debate into the topic of judicial independence in the country.
He has survived the injury, and is at present out of danger. He has accused his seniors of trying to influence his verdict.
Prior to the suicide attempt, he acquitted nearly five defendants of all charges registered against them.
As per a media report, the judge was under huge pressure from his seniors. The media report adds that he was not capable to withstand that pressure.
The incident has sparked a huge debate on the topic of judicial freedom in the country of Thailand, and across the world.
Many have raised serious allegations against the Thailand judiciary. Most have used the social media platforms available in the country to express their concern about the future of the country’s judicial system.
The issue has badly damaged the Thailand judiciary. If the system wants to erase the black mark that has been passed over them by the incident, it must launch a detailed investigation into the issue and must bring those, who have forced the judge to go this extreme, to justice.
Judicial failure is not like any others. It may have many serious long term impacts.
