The Election commission of India has finally announced the dates of the much-awaited by-election in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu today.

The by-election for the Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar Assembly constituency, located in the heart of Chennai, is likely to take place on December 21.

The election gains more political prominence, as the two powerful factions of the party led by the former Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa, considers the upcoming elections as the right opportunity to demonstrate their mightiness and their acceptance among the local people.

Some major political developments, which occurred in the aftermath of the former CM’s unexpected demise, has resulted to the rise of the two factions in AIADMK: the faction led by the former CM’s aid Sasikala, who is currently suffering a jail sentence, and the faction led by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam.

There have been reports that for the last few months the jailed AIADMK leader’s faction has been suffering numerous I-T raids and investigations. So, it is clear that for them the victory is very important.

Anyway, among these two factions, the one led by the TN CM is in a more safe state. Last day, the Election Commission of India Has even allotted the symbol of “two leaves”, for which these factions indulged in a serious tug-of-war, to the AIADMK faction headed by the Tamil Nadu supremo.

Anyway, the result of this most crucial election is expected to be announced on December 24.
