Solar energy sector likely to create huge employment opportunities: Think Tanks

A research done by two popular think tanks- the Council on Energy, Environment and Water and the Natural Resource Defence Council- has identified that the renewable power sectors such as the solar and wind power sectors are likely to create huge job opportunities in the country in the near future. According to the report, a huge amount of workforce is needed in the construction phase of the solar projects. Of the two lucrative renewable energy sectors- the wind and the solar, the solar sector is the most labour-intensive sector.   A survey has been conducted in nearly thirty-seven companies operating in the solar energy sector, around eight solar manufacturing units and at least nine companies operating in the wind energy sector in order to articulate the report regarding the ‘employment opportunities in the renewable energy sectors’. As a part of the global commitment, the Indian government has admitted to generate nearly 1,75,000 MW of renewable energy by 2022. Until now, it has only generated nearly ten per cent of what it has committed. In this juncture of the era in which the global powers are showing unprecedented reluctance to invest more money in the renewable energy sectors, it is the right opportunity of our country to show the world leaders how a developing country can create job opportunities and growth simultaneously without ditching the global climate commitment. As per the report, at this moment, the renewable energy sector is providing job to nearly twenty-one thousand people. It is estimated that in the near future this sector can give job opportunity to over three lakh people. Let’s hope for the best!
