SIT to reopen more anti-Sikh riot cases

The Union Home Ministry has decided to allow the Special Investigation Team, which was constituted by the first NDA regime (came to power in the year 2014) to probe the serious cases in connection with the riot, to reopen all important cases related to the riot – even those which were quashed by the concerned courts due to lack of evidence.

The Special Investigation Team, appointed by the NDA government, has made several breakthroughs in the anti-Sikh riot investigation.

It has successfully collected evidence in many of those cases which were closed down by the former investigators on the ground of lack of evidence.

The increased scope of the investigation is likely to give a serious headache to several senior Congress leaders.

Earlier, there was an allegation that the attacks were carried out at the behest of some senior Congress leaders.

Notably, no senior Congress leaders have been found guilty in any of the cases related to the anti-Sikh riot ever.

A political observer says that there is politics in the NDA government’s decision to expand the armpit of the anti-Sikh riot.

The same observer adds that even though there is politics, there is no wrong in increasing the armpit of the riot investigation if it helps to give justice to those who feel that justice is not served to them.
