Saffron proves unassailable in Maharashtra

The latest from the Indian state of Maharashtra, which recently witnessed a crucial Assembly Election, proves that the Saffron party is unassailable in that part of the country.

As more than half of the total votes casted in the state have been counted, the faction led by the Saffron party has wristed nearly 167 of the 288 seats in the state (that is, at least 23 votes more than what is required to gain a simple majority (144) in the Maharashtra assembly).

The development is a huge shame to the faction led by the Congress. That does not mean that the Grand Old Party has been crushed completely. It has gained more than 91 seats in the assembly. What makes the score dim is the fact that the BJP has been ruling the state for last five years and there is a strong sentiment in the state among its agriculture population against the ruling BJP. The result indicates that the Congress-led faction has totally failed to make use of the opportunity to its maximum possibility.

What is shared from Haryana is not a different story. There also, the BJP-led faction has reached close to the majority line. There, if the BJP fails to reach up to the line, it will be a good report for the Congress. In Haryana, the Congress has done far better performance than what they have shown in Maharashtra. It has won at least 29 seats in the 89 member assembly. The BJP’s number now stands at 38 (that is, it is seven seats shorter than what is required to emerge as the single largest party in the state assembly).
