Power supply to Maradu apartments blocked

The Kerala State Electricity Board has blocked power supply to the apartments in Maradu, which was ordered to demolish by the top court of the country citing that they were erected in environmentally sensitive regions.

Recently, the residents of the apartments were asked to leave the flats. The notices regarding that were even pasted on the walls of the apartments by the concerned authority.

Still, several residents continue to live in the apartments despite the action of the state government.

The electricity disruption has not affected the apartments completely, as the residents have surmounted the crisis with the support of generators.

But, no resident see the present method as a permanent solution. They have filed compliant against the action of the KSEB in several human rights forums.

As per a latest report, the concerned authority has initiated measures to block the water supply to the apartments.

Soon, the state government is likely to inform the top court what actions it has taken so far in the issue.

Earlier, the state faced serious criticism for the approach it adopted in the issue in its initial stage.

Notably, the political party, which rules the state, as well as most other political parties in the state, in the initial stage, offered open support to the stand of the residents of the apartments.
