Opinion: The Congress’ Khinvsar Test
In Rajasthan, everything is not ‘OK’ for the Grand Old Party. It is true that the Congress Party has successfully suppressed the ego clash between two of its senior leaders based in the state. But, many other problems still remain unresolved. Now, the latest problem is the upcoming by-election in the Khinvsar constituency.
It is the election of the MLA of the constituency to the parliament is what that has paved the way for the by-election.
Actually, that MLA, Hanuman Beniwal, is at present with the BJP. He was an independent MLA. Prior to the recent General Election, he formed a political organisation, Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, and reached an alliance agreement with the NDA, which is led by the BJP. He was allotted a seat by the alliance. And, he won from the Nagaur constituency with a huge majority.
The Khinvsar constituency is a Jat majority constituency. The verdict of the constituency indicates with whom the most influential community of the state stands.
There is every reason to believe that the RLTP-BJP alliance would change the course of the Rajasthan politics. Some say that it would bring the Jat community close the BJP.
Rajasthan is literally the last stronghold the Congress has in the northern part of the country. It has lost everywhere else almost completely. The centrist party has to stick on to the state somehow. It is the matter of its survival.
