Maharashtra gives huge cash awards to Olympic stars

The Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has given a huge cash prize of nearly seventy-five lakh rupees to the Olympic silver medallist and badminton legend, P V Sindhu. Recognising the effort and dedication invested by the celebrity coach to mould a perfect champion, the Maharashtra government has also handed a reasonable sum of twenty-five lakh rupees to P Gopichand- Sindhu’s coach. The cash prize was reportedly announced at an event organised by the Maharashtra Badminton Association. According to the report, the CM himself felicitated the badminton champion and coach with the cash prize. While speaking at the function, the CM announces that he is happy to give such cash award to the champions. He further added that the young generation must be educated about the relevance of playground and sports. He also emphasises on the importance of spreading awareness about the sports and related activities. He advises that the performance of a sportsperson should not only be measured by medals and achievements. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has announced around fifty lakh each for all five Rio Participants hailing from the state. It is said that the steeplechase specialist would get at least seventy-five lakh rupees considering her extraordinary performance. She finished tenth at the Rio Olympics 2016 in her event, marking her ever-highest timing. Sakshi Malik will also get a sum of nearly fifty lakh rupee. It seems that the Maharashtra government forgot Deepa Karmarker, who performed a historic performance securing the fourth position in the most difficult, gymnastic, event.
