The movie is about a young couple who have a mutual agreement that marriage is not for them and decides to live together, contradicting the traditional India and marriage system. This film is described as a reflection on the mindset of Urban India. OK Kanmani was well received by the critics and it was a commercial success. Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, who previously starred in 2013 blockbuster Aashiqui 2, are cast in the lead roles. A. R Rahman and Gulzar will be doing the songs for the film.
This is second Bollywood remake of Mani Ratnam that is directed by Shaad Ali. He previously directed Saathiya, remake of the Tamil film Alaipayuthey, with Rani Mukherji and Vivek Oberoi in the lead roles.
