Indian peacekeepers in Haiti receive appreciation for professionalism

The Indian peacekeepers, deployed in Haiti, have received appreciation for its professionalism. The Indian force is the backbone of the Haiti police force. The appreciation has come at the time the force is preparing to leave the country winding up its decade-long-service. At the time the force reached the Caribbean country, it was a very problematic region; the entire region was marred due to violence. The Indian force has helped Haiti to develop a strong police force in the country. For last eleven years, the Indian forces have been working closely with the Haiti police. It is during this period that the Haiti police have brought the region under its complete control. During this period, violence has been considerably reduced. Without the help of the Indian forces, the country may not have achieved this.

Nearly 140 members from the prestigious Assam Rifles were deployed in Haiti as part of the peace keeping mission. Of this 140, around 126 departed the country early last week, as the mission was completed.

The remaining personals of the Indian force will leave the country within few weeks.

The honour the Indian force has received is expected to encourage the country to come forward to take up similar challenging missions in the future.
