Eric Parker, former Alabama Police officer, has been charged for assaulting an Indian citizen named Sureshbhai Patel. Sureshbhai Patel is a 57-year old grandfather who has recently moved down to the US. Mr. Patel was on his morning walk outside his son’s home on 6th February when the police came to detain him. The statement from the police was that they got a call from a neighbor saying about a suspicious person. Mr. Patel who doesn’t speak English was trying to walk away from the officers. The footage from the police cameras showed that Mr. Patel was eventually thrown down to the ground by Mr. Parker by which Mr. Patel suffered injuries which eventually led to partial paralysis. Robert Bentley, Alabama Governor, has already apologized for this incident to the Indian government. Mr. Patel is now recovering and remains in a rehabilitation centre in Huntsville, according to Hank Sherrod, an attorney for Mr. Patel.
