Excess mobile phone use- Health Issues……….

Some interesting facts

  • Studies to date provide no indication that environmental exposure to RF fields, such as from base stations, increases the risk of cancer or any other disease.
  • There are some inconclusive studies that Cell phone users had an increased risk of malignant gliomas. ,and acoustic neuromas.
  • Tumors are more likely to occur on the side of the head that the cell handset is used.
  • One hour of cell phone use per day may increases tumor risk after ten years or more.

So all these needs to be proved with further research and studies.

So as of now recommendations to reduce such risks can be by

  1. Using an earpiece such that the hand set is away from the head
  2. Avoid continuous use for more than 15- 20 minutes
  3. More use of texting
  4. Do not use telephone in a car without an external antenna.

The National Cancer Institute says there is no proof that cellphones can actually increase the risk of cancer but it can increase the temperature of body cells in contact with cellphones

3.Degenerative and compressive changes

Text Claw” is a fancy name  used to describe all of the finger cramping and sore muscles that come from continuous scrolling, texting, and gaming. It can cause inflammation in our tendons and enhance existing conditions, like tendinitis and carpal tunnel.

Cell Phone Elbow” describes tingling or numbness in ring and little fingers after bending your elbow for long periods of time which occurs due to continuous compression of the ulnar nerve.

Text neck –Overusing mobiles contributes to neck and shoulder pain. If we stay in a fixed posture for too long like working  over a phone we are putting those muscles under stress. Because the head and neck move forwards, it will eventually lead to a reversal of the natural curve of the neck. which can lead to serious problems in this area.’ Leaning the head forwards was like holding a 10 to 12lb weight away from the body. Muscles will go into spasm if they have to hold such a position. Tall young women with slender necks were anatomically most at risk from neck problems, also sedentary people not used to using different muscles. All these accelerates Cervical spondylosis.
