Election updates: Polls progress in Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram

Today is a big day for the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram. The states are on their poll stations to decide their future leaders. Madhya Pradesh is ruled by the Saffron Party and Mizoram is governed by the Grand Old Party. For that reason, the poll is considered as one of the semi-finals of the upcoming general election.

In the state of Madhya Pradesh, the Congress is the prime rival of the ruling. Meanwhile, in the state of Mizoram, the BJP is the main opponent of the governing.

In both states, the anti-incumbency factor is very high. In both states, the opposition parties have tried their best to leverage the benefit of this factor.

At this moment, it remains less clear has the fierce election campaigns launched in the poll bound states by the national parties made any serious impact on the mind on the voters.

Of the two states which are on their poll stations today, Madhya Pradesh carries more significance. In terms of a national perspective, the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh is politically more powerful, than the other.

The counting process in both states is scheduled to take place on 11 December.
