DMK to organise protest in Delhi against detention of Kashmir leaders

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the most powerful party in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu at present, is preparing to organise a large protest on day after tomorrow in the national capital, Delhi, against the preventive detention of Jammu and Kashmir politicians by the central government, which is led by the BJP.

The Congress, Trinamool Congress, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India are expected to participate in the protest.

All these opposition parties have confirmed their participation in the announced protest led by the DMK.

It is a definitely a significant political move. With the protest, the DMK is propping up to become the face of the Indian federalism.

Like Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian state of Tamil Nadu is also a hard to win territory for the national parties like the BJP.

It is clear that the attempt is to project the question of federalism. What the opposition tries is to create a feeling that the Indian federalism is under threat. The opposition wants to remind the federals not in good terms with the national parties that what happened to the Jammu and Kashmir can happen to other federals also.

A DMK source says that they have approached many other opposition parties. If that is the case, the number of participants may rise further.
