The Grand Old Party, which is in a battle for survival, has come up with a highly impressive manifesto today. The Congress Party has assured that it would increase job opportunities – the area where the present regime has failed to make any significant contribution – and introduce a unique Minimum Guaranteed Income scheme for poor – far better than the farmer income scheme introduced by the ruling through its latest interim budget. It has also promised that it would increase the cap of the total job days of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act from 100 days to 150 days. Other important offers in the manifesto are the assurance of an increase in the spend on education to the six per cent of the Gross Domestic Product, and of an upgradation in the GST concept from the present GST to the GST 2.0, which is said to be based on a single, moderate, standard rate of tax.

While speaking in the function organised to release the manifesto of the party that he leads, Congress President Rahul Gandhi has proudly said that he would not make those promises that he cannot fulfil. He has also added that he could not lie to his people.

What he has indirectly mentioned is that he will fulfil all promises that have been made through the manifesto once he is elected to the corridor of power by the people. What he has indirectly alleged is that the present ruling government has failed to fulfil the promises that it made during the last election – the Congress President has even mentioned about the concept of fifteen lakh to justify his argument.

The nation is eagerly waiting to see how the Saffron Party is going to undo the slight edge gained by the Grand Old Party with the popular manifesto aimed to woo the poor and marginalised.
