The most senior politician who was China’s ex-security chief, Zhou Yongkang, has been sentenced in jail for his whole life term on the basis of corruption. This sentence was on the grounds of bribery, misuse of power and purposefully disclosing national secrets. Till his retirement in 2012, Mr Yongkang was considered to be the most powerful leader. During a State TV show he pleaded for guilty and was conscious of the crimes he had done to the people. The trial of his case was behind closed doors since it consisted many state secrets and it was not officially announced of his sentence till the conviction was reported on Thursday. It is reported that he receives a life term imprisonment for accepting bribes of about 130m yuan, seven years for misuse of power and four years for releasing the state secrets. Since the time the investigations started against him, he was being expelled from the Communist Party. This issue is considered to be the first time that a senior Chinese politician has been charged due to corruption since the Communist Party came in to power since 1949.
