The central government is set to approach legal professionals for their advice on whether the government can delete the biometric details of youngsters who opt to step out from the Aadhaar framework once they turn the age of eighteen.

Recently, the central cabinet agreed to make certain amendments to the existing Aadhaar. The agreed proposals contain the provision for the deletion of biometric details of those youngsters who choose to stay out of the Aadhaar framework.

The amendments have not been presented in the recently-concluded budget session of the parliament. The amendments are expected to be presented in the next session of the parliament, which will most probably be conducted under the supervision of a new government in the centre.

Many have expressed doubt over the applicability of the proposed amendments in connection with the provision for the deletion of biometric date.

Many aged below eighteen are at present under the framework of Aadhaar. Those come under that category cannot be equated to the adults wilfully handed over their biometric details to be kept inside the framework of Aadhaar.
