Birthday special: Deepika Padukone
Reigning queen of Bollywood Deepika Padukone turns 30 today. With cheers and love from all over the nation, She’s made quiet an impact in Bollywood film industry and box office. Daughter of padma shri award winning Badminton player, Prakash Padukone, she initially played badminton. Then she went on to join the modelling industry. She made her debut in a Kannada film named “Aiswarya”. Her Bollywood debut “Om Shanti Om” opposite her childhood icon Shah Rukh Khan, became a blockbuster.
She made several successful films like Love aaj kal, Housefull, Desi Boyzz, and Cocktail. She dominated the tabloids in the year 2013 with 4 back-to-back films grossing over 100 crores at box office; i.e. Race 2, Yeh Jawaani hai Deewani, Chennai express and Goliyon ki Rassleela Ram-Leela. She won the filmfare award for debut actress for her performance in Om Shanti Om. She won the best actress award for her critically acclaimed performance in Goliyon ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Her later releases Finding Fanny and Happy New Year were also successful.
She played strong and career oriented characters in Piku, Tamasha and she played warrior princess Mastani in Bajirao Mastani.
In 2015, Deepika launched a foundation against depression named “Live Love Laugh“, after opening up in an interview about her experience with anxiety and depression. She also writes columns about women’s health and other issues and wrote weekly columns in Hindustan times.
