In connection with the Banaras Hindu University protest issue which was actually triggered by the alleged eve-teasing incident, the Uttar Pradesh government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, has removed nearly three additional city magistrates.

Apart from the magistrates, two police personals have also been removed by the concerned government in the wake of the raising protests against the unacceptable way in which the police personals handled the protest.

As per the report, the police force brutally suppressed the demand of the protesters who gathered outside the BHU Vice Chancellors resident in order to seek action over the alleged eve-teasing incident using batons, injuring several journalists and students.

Several political leaders have condemned the action and criticised the UP government. There have been allegations that there is politics in the issue and the opposition parties such as the SP and Congress Party are trying to take advantage of the situation.

The fact that the protest over the alleged eve-teasing incident commenced just a day before the PM Modi’s visit strengthens the claims raised by those who criticise the protesters.

Protesters have said that the hostel authorities did not pay heed to the complaints filed by the student who was teased by three motorists so they were forced to start a strong protest.

Anyway, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, has sought a preliminary report from the concerned police officials and is said to be monitoring the development of the investigation personally.

As per the latest information, the district administration has suspended class in colleges in Varanasi till October 2.
