Abhinandan Varthaman to receive Vir Chakra

Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman is set to receive one of the highest gallantry medals in the country, Vir Chakra.

He was in the team which foiled the Pakistan Air Force’s attempt to attack India in the immediate aftermaths of the Balakot air strike, in which the Indian Air Force, to avenge the Pulwama terror attack, intruded into the territory of Pakistan and destroyed a terror camp erected in their territory to train terrorists.

He was caught by Pakistan while he was trying to defend the country. Later, he was released by Islamabad, when Delhi imposed serious pressure over its neighbour using all possible options.

Vir Chakra is the third highest war time gallantry medal in the country. The medal will be awarded to him on the Independence Day, which is celebrated on August 15 every year in the country.

Several others who took part in the Air Force operations carried out during that time are expected to receive similar prestigious awards.

More details are awaited.
