Aadhar Card to be Used for Availing Special Government Schemes – Unique Times
The Supreme Court has announced that the Aadhar card may be used to avail special government schemes which include employment guarantee, pension and bank accounts. This is seen to be a great relief for the government which has been trying in extending the uses of Aadhar card since many years. It was reported that from today on wards the Aadhar card can be used in availing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Jan-Dhan Yojana, provident funds and pensions. The Supreme Court told the petitioners who challenge the government that if the card can be used for some voluntary purposes then there will be no reason to hold back the card. After today’s meeting the Court will decide about the legal validity of Aadhar card. Earlier, the UID scheme had been challenged in the court over the privacy concerns as it uses biometric data like fingerprints and iris scans.
