A foolish, but brilliant, comment

Sumalatha Nikhil JD(S) DynastyPolitics Karnataka Mandya General Election UniqueTimes

Since the day the rumours surfaced that the son of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and the grand son of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, Nikhil Kumaraswamy, would be inducted as the candidate of Mandya in the upcoming General Election, a power social media campaign has been happening in almost every social media platforms against the practice of dynastic politics –the practice the JD(S) has been following since the day it gripped the state of Karnataka- in the name of ‘Go Back Nikhil’.

Yet, no significant difference has been achieved by the campaign. The Karnataka CM has dismissed the campaign as the product of his rivals indented to malign the image of his party. Many of his colleagues have taken similar position, except the supporters of those who expected they would be inducted in the seat.

Interestingly, the things have suddenly changed. It is a comment that has changed the course of the politics which has been flowing in favour of Mr Nikhil since his name was unofficial declared.

That strategic comment has been made by none other than H D Revanna. It is well known fact that Mr Revanna is not in good terms with his brother Mr Kumaraswamy.

Mr Revanna, while to a television channel in Delhi, has questioned the interest of veteran actress Sumalatha Ambareesh, who lost her husband (actor-turned-politician Ambareesh) recently, to enter the electoral politics in a disrespectful manner.

Now, the comment has helped the actress to take up the maximum benefit of the sympathy factor to strengthen her claim for the Mandya seat. Notably, increasing that factor, the actress has responded in a soft spoken manner without personally hurting the leader, when asked about her response to the comment of the JD(S) strongman.

Actually, at present, Mr Nikhil is at the receiving end of the ire of the public, not his uncle. It is difficult to believe that the comment has been made to help Mr Nikhil.

If that comment has been made to indirectly reduce the strength of the claim of Mr Nikhil for the Mandya constituency, that purpose has been served.
